18-02-201030th BRIT Award Winners Announced
This week saw the 30th BRIT Awards Ceremony take place at London’s Earl’s Court. Hosted by comedian Peter Kay and featuring performances from Lily Allen, JLS and Jay-Z, the night saw its share of controversy with Liam Gallagher delivering an expletive laden speech while picking up the BRIT’s Album of 30 Years Award for Oasis’ ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’. Lady Gaga was the biggest winner of the night scooping all three awards for which she was nominated. She also dedicated an impressive live performance to the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen. The night was rounded off with a powerful set by Robbie Williams - who received the Outstanding Contribution To Music award – and who also treated the audience to a ten minute encore that wasn’t broadcast.

19-01-20102010 Golden Globe Winners Announced
Monday night saw the annual Golden Globe Awards being handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Now in its 67th year, the Golden Globes were presented by Britain's Ricky Gervais and the glittering event soon became the scene of some big surprises. The most notable upsets were that of the much touted Iraq-based war drama The Hurt Locker being completely overlooked, and James Cameron's science fiction (a genre that's often ignored by award-givers) extravaganza Avatar taking home Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director gongs. Two of Hollywood's most well respected and oft-neglected actors, Jeff Bridges and Robert Downey Jr., were awarded for their turns in Crazy Heart (Best Actor – Drama) and Sherlock Holmes (Best Actor – Comedy or Musical), respectively, while awards favourite Meryl Streep took home a statuette for her performance in the culinary comedy Julie And Julia. One win we didn't see coming at all was that of Sandra Bullock who was given Best Actress – Drama for her starring role in The Blind Side, but then again, this has yet to be released in UK cinemas. It was also great to see last year's surprise smash The Hangover being honoured as Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
